The Scoundrel and Scamp lanches its ninth season with Arizona premieres and new work, along with Scoundrel and Scamp beloved series like the THE WOBO SHOW, RED HERRING PUPPETS, and RADIO HOUR. Our PLAYS IN TRANSLATION CONTEST returns in partnership with the American Literary Translators Association. Our favorite FESTIVALS return, such as the 3rd Annual 24-7 PLAY FESTIVAL, the 5th Annual TUCSON PUPPET CABARET and PLAY READINGS.

We are pleased to bring the Arizona premiere of Finegan Kruckemeyer’s play WHERE WORDS ONCE WERE to Tucson audiences, who may know his work from This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing and You and Me and the Space Between. Wolfe Bowart debuts his THEATRE DE CUISINE as a fine dining event intersecting with magic and mayhem in a circus-inspired theatrical experience.

WHERE WORDS ONCE WERE

In a dystopian world where language is rationed to only 1,000 allowed words, Alli and her son Orhan live a normal life; going to school, owning and operating a bakery. Life is good until the words “I think I see a city that rues words” are plastered on a wall over the bakery and a pen goes missing from the local school. Then The City begins a man-hunt for the perpetrator. During this time our hero, Orhan, discovers that even a single word can change the world.

Elegantly presented dishes by a local chef are paired with humorous, poetic and adventurous short theatrical numbers. A theatrical culinary experience like no other! So unhook your corsets, let loose the reigns on your appetites and relax into the comforting arms of Theatre de Cuisine!

24-7 PLAY FESTIVAL

WRITTEN, REHEARSED AND PERFORMED ON AUGUST 15-16, 2025
RUNS AUGUST 16TH, 2025

The festival returns for a second season! Seven brand-new short plays, all written, rehearsed, and performed in a 24-hour creative bonanza! On Friday night, seven playwrights are given a common prompt. Their coffee cups are filled and they are given the directive that they can leave the writing chambers only when handing over a completed 10-minute play — or the arrival of 4:00 AM, whichever comes first. On Saturday morning the other artists — 7 directors and 28 actors — arrive to discover their new scripts, roles, and assignments. At noon, the tech process begins. Performances take place at that night. A delightful celebration of the complete theatrical process all in a 24 hour period.

SEANCE! A Spooky Evening with Wolfe Bowart and Zac Austin

Join us for a Victorian-era seance, summoned from the quirky and magical minds of Wolfe Bowart and Zac Austin. Gather around our table to communicate with those who have passed before us, specifically Aunt Edith, who passed on but we still need her chicken salad recipe. In this quirky Charles Addams cartoon come to life, something keeps going bump in the night!

Note: It may be best if we leave the kids at home for this spooky journey!

RED HERRING PUPPETS SERIES

Our Radio Hour series returns for a third season with “not-so-late-night” times with two new shows including four radio plays!

OUR SPOOKY FALL SHOW (SEP 5 & 6)

A double feature starting with the comedy show made famous by Lucille Ball, My Favorite Husband : Halloween Surprise Party. Liz and George Cooper are quite perturbed that their closest friends and neighbors haven't invited them to their annual Halloween party. Liz decides there is only one possible solution. And then…on a snowy December night, three women unwittingly awaken an evil spirit in the eerie Lights Out: Poltergeist.  

OUR VALENTINE’S SHOW (FEB 13 & 14)

Two shows in one! In Our Miss Brooks: Valentine's Day Date we return to Madison High School where we find Miss Brooks, who is trying to get Mr. Boynton to take her out to dinner…even if she has to pay for it herself. And in Lights Out: The Ugliest Man in the World we have a beautifully tragic drama featuring Paul, a man deemed to be the ugliest man in the world, and who has been exploited all his life. Paul’s only hope is to find a place where he can belong, a place of love.

Wolfe Bowart’s The WoBo Show comes back to the S&S for a third season! Join us for three very different shows featuring the hilarious Wolfe Bowart and Xochitl Martinez plus special guests - catch one or see all three in our Season 9 series. Wolfe Bowart brings us another enchanting theatre creation, the creator and actor behind such zany, magical works as Cloud Soup, LaLaLuna, OAF, and One Twig at a Time. Enjoyed by audiences the world over, Wolfe’s shows are theatrical experiences that evoke thought, wonder, and laughter — a joyful celebration of oddity, creating dreamlike sequences that inspire delight.

PLAYS-IN-TRANSLATION CONTEST

ONE NIGHT ONLY NOV 7, 2025

Since our inception, The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre has been thrilled to present new works of translation and adaptation with such beloved works as The Little Prince, Blood Wedding, and the winner of our last call for plays, Russian Roulette. This season we are excited to present to our audiences the winner of our fifth annual plays-in-translation contest hosted in collaboration with the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA). We will select a winner from a diverse field of global plays translated into English. In the past selections have ranged from dark comedies to quiet character studies, on a breadth of themes including socio-political corruption, family dynamics, and medical decision-making.

The Scoundrel and Scamp is pleased to offer three exciting, new and contemporary plays that speak to the essential theme Save the Earth, Save Ourselves.
